i like it overall moffaloff. The bird and the chick look a bit disjointed though... (as far as the pose goes) maybe instead of her right hand on the bow, she has it somehow interacting with the head of the bird? weather reaching behind it to the right, or hand in its feathers? something to bring them together? minor change with huge results maybe :)

looking badass chris, i agree with nelor- some more interaction between the two would really reinforce the bond.

on another note, having a crossbow on a mount is also a tricky deal- loading the bolt would be near impossible- i would suggest a short thick bow like the ones that the Huns or Scythian's used. this would also add a translatable reference. plus i think the additional shapes(the bow, quiver, and arrows) would lend itself to your pic.

buuuuut... if you really want the crossbow- you could engineer some sort of crank or lever system to load the bolt. that would add some cool shapes too :)

Thanks for the comments, fellas. I think these are good points and I'm going to rework her a bit. Chase - that crossbow was actually going to be a semiautomatic mechanism with "clips" of arrows that feed into it similar to what you mentioned. But...having a giant bow might create a more interesting silhouette. I'm starting to lose steam on this one though and wishing I had done it in 3D. Would be SO easy to repose her. The thought of redrawing a bunch of stuff exhausts me. O_O
